“Eradication”
This seminar will include discussions of
when eradiction is optimal, eradication as an international game, and the
financing of eradication. Scott will also discuss the previous success
(smallpox) and the current effort (polio).
Scott Barrett is a professor of environmental economics and
international political economy at the Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies
at Johns Hopkins University, where he is also the director of the EEST Program. A specialist
on international environmental policy, Professor Barrett was previously on the
faculty of the University
of London. He has
published widely on the strategy of negotiating international environmental
agreements, and received the Erik Kempe Prize for his research in this field.
His new book on this subject, "Environment and Statecraft: the Strategy of
Environmental Treaty-Making," was published by Oxford University Press in
2003. Professor Barrett has advised a number of international and other
organizations, including the European Commission, the Global Environment
Facility, and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development.
