Hunter Lovins Named 2011 Bren Commencement Keynote Speaker

L. Hunter Lovins, environmental author, entrepreneur, and promoter of environmental sustainability, will deliver the keynote address at the 2011 Bren School commencement exercises, to be held Friday, June 10.

Trained as a sociologist and a lawyer and known for her signature black cowboy hat, Lovins is president and founder of Natural Capital Solutions, which educates senior decision-makers in business, government, and civil society on restoring and enhancing natural and human capital while increasing prosperity and quality of life.

Her client portfolio includes Royal Dutch Shell, Wal-Mart, Clif Bar, the U.S. EPA, the Pentagon, and the governments of Jamaica, Australia, and Afghanistan. She has addressed the World Economic Forum and the World Summit on Sustainable Development, and she co-founded the Rocky Mountain Institute with her then-husband, Amory Lovins.

Lovins was named Time Magazine’s 2000 Hero of the Planet, and in 2009 Newsweek dubbed her a “Green Business Icon.” She has co-authored nine books, including Natural Capitalism (1999), the e‐book Climate Protection Manual for Cities, and her most recent work, Transforming Industry in Asia (2009).
