"Assessing the Effect of Climate Change on Health"

Hosted by Matthew Kotchen

Abstract

The climate is a key ingredient in the Earth’s complex system that sustains human life and well-being. There is now a growing consensus that emissions of greenhouse gases due to human activity will alter the Earth’s climate, most notably by causing temperatures, precipitation levels, and weather variability to increase. It is believed that climate change is likely to affect human health directly through changes in temperature and precipitations and indirectly through changes in the ranges of disease vectors and other channels. This lecture will present an overview of the conceptual and statistical issues in measuring the health impact of climate change.
