Ship Strikes of Whales and Container Ship Pollution Are Topics of
Bren-sponsored Community Forum

The Bren School is among several co-sponsors of a community forum about ongoing efforts to slow down ships in the Santa Barbara Channel in order to reduce air pollution and ship strikes of endangered whales.

Bren school dean, Steve Gaines, will moderate a panel discussion at the event, which will feature speakers from the shipping industry and the organzations involved in the trial ship-speed reduction program, as well as experts on whales and air pollution science .

Titled "Protecting Blue Whales and Blue Skies," the forum will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 10, from 3–5 p.m., at the Cabrillo Pavilion Arts Center in Santa Barbara. Other forum sponsors are the Santa Barbara County Air Pollution Control District (APCD), NOAA's Channel Islands National Marine Sanctuary, the National Marine Sanctuary Foundation, and the Environmental Defense Center.
