Biography
Frank Davis' teaching and research interests are in landscape ecology and conservation planning. His ecological research has focused on the coupling of ecological pattern and process in California oak woodland and chaparral ecosystems. His research in conservation planning and reserve network design has focused on theory and tools for evaluating the conservation status of native species and ecosystems and for siting new conservation projects. He directed the California Gap Analysis Project, served as as a science team member on the Sierra Nevada Ecosystem Project, and was research team leader for the California Legacy Project. Between 1995 and 1999 he served as Deputy Director of the National Center for Ecological Analysis and Synthesis (NCEAS). He co-organized a 3-yr scientific and legal analysis of the Endangered Species Act that led to the 2-volume book, "The Endangered Species Act at 30" (Island Press). A Fellow in the Aldo Leopold Leadership Program and a Trustee of the Nature Conservancy of California, he increasingly works at the interface between environmental science and policy. He is a trustee of the California chapter of The Nature Conservancy, a member of the Board of Directors of The Tejon Ranch Conservancy, and Chair of the National Research Council's Committee for the Independent Scientific Review of the Everglades Restoration Program.For details visit the Biogeography Lab website listed below.
