| The main
components of this project include an integrated GIS as
a mechanism to access, store, retrieve, and analyze data
as well as an interface for coupling the GIS model with
the Internet and publishing the results on the Web. The
model's outputs are the results of two interpolation
techniques: Thiessen polygon and Kriging. Each technique
produced species habitat distribution maps with
properties, limitations, and caveats unique to the
modeling technique used as well as the data inputs. The
output of both models were integrated with an
Internet-capable mapping software with built-in GIS
functionality: ESRI's ArcIMSTM.
A website containing a detailed description of the
project and its components was then built around ArcIMS.
