1. COMPUTER LAB USE AFTER GRADUATION
Computer accounts will be deleted September 1st. If you require your computer account after September 1st, have your faculty sponsor send a note of explanation to request@bren.ucsb.edu .
Security codes will be disabled on the Friday Following Graduation at 2:00 pm, so there will be no after-hours access. The SCF and GIS labs will be available from 7:30 am 4:00 pm, Monday through Friday, until September 12, 2005. The labs may be closed at any time during the summer for updating and maintenance.
The Terminal Servers, snoopy.bren.ucsb.edu, or woodstock.bren.ucsb.edu, also may be used until September 1. Use this time to back up any files you would like to save, and to set up e-mail forwarding.
2. GETTING A COPY OF YOUR H: DRIVE AND/OR GROUP PROJECT FILES
a) In the labs, you can save your files to a recordable CD (CD-R) or DVD (DVD+/-R). All lab computers have CD recorders, the GIS lab has DVD/CD recorders. Each CD holds approximately 700 MB of data and each DVD 4 GB, so you may need more than one. Click Here for information on creating this CD.
b) In the labs, you may also save files to a thumb drive or an external usb hard drive.
c) You may also use Snoopy to transfer smaller files to your home computer.
d) Save old emails by saving the contents of H:\Mail . You will need to use Outlook on another computer to look at them. You can export your address book to a Comma Seperated Values (csv) file that most mail programs can import.
3. E-MAIL FORWARDING
The Bren School will provide email forwarding indefinitely. You may update your email address from a web browser anytime, by going to the computing services web page and clicking on Vacation Mail and Forwarding. Your Bren username and password will function for this, even after your regular computer account has been disabled.
4. COMPUTER ACCOUNT EXPIRATION
After September 1, computer accounts will be deleted, and graduating students:
a) cannot log into the lab computers
b) cannot log into the Terminal Servers
c) cannot log into webmail.bren.ucsb.edu
You will still be able to update e-mail forwarding (see above).
Thank you for your time, congratulations on your achievement, and good luck in your future! Please stay in touch with us and each other.
