Services - THE BREN SCHOOL'S VIRUS PROTECTION POLICY
Here at the Bren School, in order to protect research data from viral infections, we implement Norton Anti-Virus, in conjunction with the University license. Norton Anti-Virus allows us to schedule periodic updates of the Norton Client that is installed on your computer, making for a program with a greater awareness of viruses, and a greater ability to fight them.

But to implement Norton successfully, it needs to be given instructions, and due to the university’s site license, only those with administrative privileges can give Norton those instructions with success. If it happens that Norton asks you to schedule a job, or queries you about it’s operations, we recommended that delete the event.

Further, we have Norton run at night, so as to not create computer and network slowdown. Every Tuesday at one in the morning, we run an audit, to determine what the status of your computer is. Every Wednesday at two in the morning, we run LiveUpdate, which contacts the central server to update your virus definitions, ensuring that on Thursday, at three in the morning, when we scan your hard drive, Norton will be able to detect the latest in viruses.
