1) First create a new folder called "imapmail" at the root of your h: drive
next create three folders under "imapmail", call them "attachments", "icmail"
and "localmail".

2) Double click the Thunderbird icon which should be located on
your desktop if thunderbird is installed. Select "Don't import anything"
then click "Next".

3) Click "Email account" then click "Next".

4) Enter your name and email address.

5) Select "IMAP" and enter "ic.ucsb.edu" for both incoming and
outgoing server, then click "Next".

6) Incoming username should be entered for you and is the same as
your username, then click "Next".

7) Name your account whatever you like or leave it as the default
then click "Next".

8) Review the account details and click "Finish".

9) After completing the wizard, from within Thunderbird click on "Tools"
then click on "Account Settings".

10) Click on "Server Settings", match your settings to the settings below substituting your
username for johndoe, for local mail directory choose "h:\imapmail\icmail", then click "OK".

11) Click on "Inbox", it will ask you for your password, enter password and check the
"User Password Manager to remember this password" checkbox and click "OK".

12) Click "OK".

13) Right click on the account name and click on "Subscribe".

14) Check the box next to each folder then click "OK".

15) Click on "Tools" then "Account Settings" then click on "Copies & Folders" in the Account
Settings window. Change the sent mail location to "sent-mail" on your account name, next change
the drafts and templates location to "saved-messages" on your account name, finally leave
templates to the default values.

16) Click on "Composistion & Addressing", uncheck "Compose messages in HTML format" and
change the reply style to "start my reply above the quote".

17) Click on "Junk Settings", check the box next to "Tust junk mail header set by:", check
the box next to "Move new junk messages to:" and change the junk location to "junk-mail"
on your account name.

18) Click on "Local Folders" and change Local Directory to: "h:\imapmail\localmail".

19) Click on "Outgoing Server (SMTP)" then click on "Edit" change the settings to match
the image below your username should be shown instead of johndoe, then click "OK" and
exit the account settings window.

20) Go into the Thunderbird options by clicking on "Tools" then clicking on
"Options". Next click on the "Attachments" tab and set the attachments
folder to "h:\imapmail\attachments" then click "OK".

21) Compose an e-mail to yourself, upon trying to send Thunderbird will ask for your password
enter the password and check the box to save your password.
