Dr. Frank W. Davis ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Frank W. Davis is a Professor of Geography and directs the Biogeography Lab at UCSB. He received his B.A. in Biology from Williams College in 1975 and his Ph.D. from the Department of Geography and Environmental Engineering at The Johns Hopkins University in 1982. He joined the Department of Geography at UCSB in 1983. Since 1983 his research has focused on the ecology of California chaparral and oak woodlands, and on the use of digital satellite data and geographic information systems for mapping vegetation, modeling species distributions, Gap Analysis, and conservation planning. Presently he is Deputy Director of the NSF National Center for Ecological Analysis and Synthesis, PI of the California Gap Analysis Project, a Science Team member on the USDA Forest Service Sierra Nevada Ecosystem Project, co-PI of an IBM Environmental Research Program Project on Spatial Decision Support Systems for Conservation Planning, and co-PI on remote sensing research projects for the EPA Biodiversity Research Consortium and the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection. He is on the Board of Editors of Conservation Biology.
